Match-ups

Match-ups are decided by an athlete’s caliber (skillset) and weight — UFCL does not do random picks. Athletes may request to challenge an opponent, but that opponent must accept at least a month in advance, and requests are considered but not guaranteed (caliber gap, novice athletes, weight difference, etc.). Set time is 60 seconds minimum per athlete; “TIME” is called when it runs out.

Scoring Criteria

Static

Isometric holds, body control, and power dynamics. A legitimate static hold is 3 seconds or longer with good form — think Victorian to Planche, Front/Back Lever 180s, Planche 360. Hold 4–5 sec+ to guarantee the score.

Dynamics

Force of motion — explosive, momentum-driven movement: 180s, 360s, 540s, 720s, Shrimp Flips, Cali Rolls, Switch Blades.

Overall Performance

Move combinations, creativity, and cleanliness. How well you combine dynamic and static movement, engage the crowd, and stand out.

Competition Rules

  1. Each contestant must wear UFCL apparel during their 1st round.
  2. Sponsor-logo apparel is allowed afterwards, but must be approved by UFCL officials first.
  3. Mouthpiece allowed; a round cannot begin without it in place. If dislodged, the referee calls time to re-insert at the first opportune moment.
  4. Gymnastics shoes, sunglasses and jewelry are prohibited during performances. Sneakers are encouraged.
  5. No excessive grease or foreign substance on the face or body.
  6. Everyone must sign a waiver to compete.
  7. Absolutely no duet and no assist during a performance — prohibited and will not be scored.
  8. All battles are evaluated and scored by 3 judges in front of the stage area.
  9. Disorderly conduct may result in a ban of up to 2 years.
  10. All confirmed athletes must attend event dates as scheduled.
  11. UFCL is not responsible for lost or stolen property during travel or stay.
  12. Confirmed athletes get a designated VIP spot, separate from spectators.
  13. Only referees, UFCL videographers, staff and host are allowed inside the stage area during performances.
  14. If your battle is called and you are not present, another battle takes place; if late and called a 2nd time, you are replaced.
  15. “Team work makes the dream work” — UFCL’s goal is to have freestyle calisthenics recognized as an official sport.
